Travel Activities

Whether you are traveling for a holiday, a family vacation or just going to Grandma's for Sunday dinner, here are a few games you can play in the car to keep your passengers entertained.

Print out this page and keep it in your glove compartment for hours of fun along the way!

License Plate Game

You will need a piece of paper and a pencil or pen for each player.

Choose a three or four letter word.  Each player writes it on a slip of paper.  Choose a letter from the license plates of passing cars to make this word again.  As you identify a letter on a license plate, cross it out on your paper.  The first player to cross out the word wins the game.

Paired Numbers (for two players)

Player One: use numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4
Player Two: use numbers 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

Look at the license plates of passing cars.  Each player gets a point when they spot one of their numbers paired on the plate, such as 33 or 55.  The first player to get 10 points wins the game.

Scavenger Hunt

You will need a piece of paper and a pencil or pen for each player.

Players make a list of things they might see along the turnpike, such as a bridge, steeple, pond, cows, toll plaza, and food signs.  Each player is given a copy of the list.  When a player spots an item on the list, they call it out and check it off.  The first player to see the object gets a point.  After all the items have been seen, the player with the most points wins.

Guess What I Saw?

One player selects an object that they have just seen and tells how many letters are in its name.  Then they give a clue to what the object is and the other players are given 3 minutes or 3 miles to guess what the object is.  If no one guesses correctly, another clue is given for another 3 minutes or miles.  The player that finally guesses becomes the next person to select an object.
