The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority purchases and contracts for a wide variety
of goods and services.
This is done in two departments, Engineering and Materials Management.
The Turnpike Authority hires contractors for projects such as road repaving and
bridge maintenance, and purchases professional services such as engineering.
Selected contractors are the lowest responsible and qualified bidder. All contracting/construction
work is procured according specifically to the relevant Massachusetts General
Law, specifically, Chpt. 30 or Chpt. 149. All professional engineer services are
procured on a "best qualified/proposal" basis.
Questions regarding contracts and professional services purchased by the Chief
Engineer can be directed to contract administration at (781) 431-5133.
Materials Management purchases everything from road salt and sand to office supplies.
Other types of goods and services include such items such as map printing, computers
and computer supplies, gasoline and heating oil, vehicles, automotive supplies
and materials for trucks and cars, paper products, copier supplies, service contracts
for copiers and fax machines, uniform cleaning, and supplies for State Police.
Questions regarding procurement handled by Materials Management can be directed
to (781) 431-5085.
Materials Management contracts of $25,000 or more are advertised in the Commonwealth
of Massachusetts weekly publication, Goods and Services Bulletin. The Bulletin is available at most city and town libraries. It is also available
by subscription, at a cost of $45 per year. Checks for the publication should
be made payable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and mailed to the State Bookstore,
Room 116, State House, Boston, 02133. Please note on the check that the publication
desired is the Goods and Services Bulletin.
To ensure diversity in contracting and procurement, the Turnpike Authority's
Office of Civil Rights seeks full utilization of qualified and available minority-
and women-owned businesses in all contracting opportunities in construction, design,
goods and services. For more information, contact the Manager of Affirmative Market
Programs at
